Work is now under way on the construction of a £¾million bridge project, which will link two halves of a prestigious Yorkshire development.
The new 36-metre bridge will span the Leeds to Pontefract railway line that bisects the Glasshoughton development. The 335-acre former colliery development near Castleford is already home to a growing number of businesses, including Alkane Energy, McDonalds and Esquisse Design, as well as the Factory Outlet Village and a major housing development by Persimmon Homes.
Waystone Ltd, the company responsible for the development of Glasshoughton, awarded the contract for the construction of the new bridge to Oldham based Dew Pitchmastic.
The bridge will provide access to Summit Park, the new 30-acre development adjacent to the M62 motorway, on regenerated land in the southern area of the site.
Waystone expects that the bridge, which is being constructed using reinforced earth abutments and steel beams, will be completed before the end of the year. Once the bridge is open, the development of the southern area of Glasshoughton can begin, providing additional development land alongside the M62 at Junction 32.
