HAT TRICK DEALS FOR WAYSTONE AT GLASSHOUGHTON
Regeneration specialist Waystone has made a positive start to the New Year announcing three significant new deals at its award winning development, Glasshoughton near Wakefield.
Waystone has sold a three acre site within the major mixed use development to Wakefield District Council for a new household waste recycling centre. The facility, that already has planning permission, will replace units in Castleford and Wakefield and become one of four satellite sites linking to the main centre in South Kirby.
A further two acre site has been sold to Wakefield and District Housing. It is anticipated that 40-50 new homes of mixed tenure will be delivered on the site that is close to the new ASDA store. This will complement the existing 187 home residential community already at Glasshoughton.
Waystone has also agreed a deal to sell a 1.25 acre plot at Glasshoughton for a new family orientated dining pub/restaurant. Works are already underway to deliver The Cloverleaf that will offer nearly 10,000 sq ft of pub and restaurant space with parking for up to 71 vehicles. The Cloverleaf is ideally located to serve customers of the nearby residential neighbourhood and Wakefield’s new skillsxchange college.
Stuart McLoughlin, Managing Director at Waystone comments, “Of course we are delighted to secure new occupiers at Glasshoughton in what is clearly a very difficult climate. These new deals reflect the true mixed use appeal of Glasshoughton that was designated a ‘Special Policy Area’ in 1991 and is now well recognised for best practice in sustainability. Over the years we have transformed a disused and contaminated site of great coal mining heritage, to thrive once again for modern day use employing around 3500 people to date.”
Glasshoughton that was named ‘Best Regeneration Project’ at the 2008 Yorkshire Property Awards is home to one of the UK’s top leisure attractions, Xscape and a Realm Designer Outlet Village as well as other retail and office operators. The regionally significant 338 acre estate, of which 130 acres is developed to date, is visibly located at Junction 32 of the M62 and also boasts its own railway station.
McLoughlin continues, “We are proud to have established a new legacy and prosperity for the region and intend to continue with the newly proposed Stadium business park.”

NOTES TO EDITOR
Waystone is a UK based subsidiary company of C.P Holdings Group of companies and specialises in re-generation/reclamation work. It regularly carries out projects in partnership with others, such as investors, land owners, councils, the English Re-generation Agency and local development agencies, to realise value on redundant and derelict land.
Waystone was set up in 1991 as a result of the decline in open cast mining business. CP Holdings wanted a section of the workforce to pursue new opportunities, and so formed Waystone, to focus on regeneration work.
The initial emphasis was on cleaning up and re-engineering large derelict sites such as old coal mines or steel works sites.
Projects of significance include:
- Riddochhill - 100 acre contaminated former colliery near Bathgate in West Lothian. The site is to be transformed from a burning tip into a major logistics and distribution park.
- Stainforth – The Masts Marina - The vision is to create £25m large off-line Marina on the Stainforth and Keadby Canal near Doncaster in South Yorkshire.
- Kingsbury Link – 120 acre distribution site at Tamworth North Warwickshire - located one mile from junction 10 of the M42 in the West Midlands. Reclamation commenced in 1992, development in 1995 and the site was completed by 2001.
