Waystone have been chosen by Derbyshire County Council to redevelop
the former American Adventure theme park site situated at the heart of
the Shipley Valley Country Park.
As part of the scheme, Derbyshire Wildlife Trust has been given the
go ahead to buy the 160 acres surrounding the site to create the
largest nature reserve in the country, subject to it raising the
necessary undisclosed funds. The reserve, comprising an eco-visitor
centre, staff headquarters and small car park, is set to create 20 jobs.
It is hoped work can get underway in the 2011 once a full planning
and consultation process has been completed. Waystone look forward to
working up their proposals with the local community, Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, Amber Valley Borough Council
and their key consultees to create a sustainable mixed use development
delivering new jobs, new homes and new leisure to the former theme park.
