Great progress is now evident on the building of the Xscape leisure and entertainment facility on the Glasshoughton Development project. Waystone concluded the sale to Xscape in March 2002 since when; the construction being carried out by Shepherd of York has proceeded at a rapid pace. The building is expected to become a major landmark in the local area as well as a regional destination leisure resort.
Waystone has joined forces with Wilson Bowden to submit a planning application for the provision of a D-I-Y store on 9 acres of land at the entrance to the Glasshoughton Regeneration Project. It is expected that a planning decision will be forthcoming during 2003 whereupon Wilson Bowden expect to build out the facility within a further 12 months.
Metro has awarded a design and construct contract to a joint venture of Waystone/Scott Wilson for the provision of the new Glasshoughton Station which it is planned to open Summer 2003. It is anticipated that initially a 1-hour train service will run from Leeds via Castleford and depending on its success it is hoped the service frequency will be increased.
Waystone has entered into an agreement with Gladman Developments for a Business Quarter on a 2-acre plot on Summit Park, Glasshoughton. It is anticipated that a planning application will be submitted to Wakefield MDC during 2003.
Waystone has concluded a deal with Dunmar Developments of Derby to carry out the development of the Village Centre at their 300-acre Barlborough Links site. The Centre includes the provision of local retail units, a nursery and a fitness centre located at the heart of the site.
Waystone has entered into negotiations with Gladman Developments to provide a new Business Centre Quarter on a 2-acre site adjacent to Lakeside Park, Barlborough Links.
Waystone has obtained planning consent for the development of 3 speculative office units approximately 4,200sq ft net let table space together with an industrial warehouse unit of 20,000sq ft on Midland Way, Central Park, Barlborough Links. Construction is expected to start before the end of November and units should be available by Summer 2003.
