Glasshoughton

After along delay to the commencement, construction work has finally begun of the building of a new station at Glasshoughton and it is now anticipated that the station will open summer 2004.

Xscape
Xscape opened its new leisure facility at Glasshoughton on October 9th when P-Y Gerbeau officiated at a grand opening ceremony attended by over 6000 people. The excited throng were entertained with everything from skiing and snow boarding displays to fire-eaters and a Disney Parade, the whole occasion being topped off with an amazing fireworks display.

Waystone took the opportunity to entertain all those members of the local community as well as the professionals who had helped and participated in the wider Glasshoughton Regeneration Project. A continuous video show provided a historical record of all the work carried out on the scheme and visitors enjoyed the delights of superb catering provided by Bertie's of Elland.

Construction has now begun on a new restaurant facility for Moebus Ltd due to open summer 2004 whilst detailed planning was recently granted for 13½ acres of industrial development and a new 120 bed hotel.

Staff News
Mark Fitzsimons has recently been appointed as the building manager for Waystone's Glasshoughton development project whilst Helen McLoughlin has recently been appointed to the Waystone Ltd board as a director with special responsibility for Design & Build and Development activities.

Hilda's View
Recently Waystone has provided a panoramic viewing facility, in memory of Hilda Burton, overlooking the major development of Xscape and Freeport where members of the Glasshoughton Forum gathered at an opening ceremony. Hilda, former joint chair of the Forum, who died three years ago, worked tirelessly for the regeneration of Glasshoughton and a plaque to mark the occasion was inscribed with the words "orchid on a muck stack". A copy of the plaque, originally created by Harry Malkin, a local artist will be put up in the Glasshoughton centre as a lasting memorial to a great lady.
